1. Churchill Cemetery Marker

Inscription. Early in the history of the settlement the northwest corner of Mr Jacob Swackhamer's farm became a public locality for the community, and it is rather remarkable that in 1827, eight years after his coming here, it was used as a burying ground. Shortly after Mr. John Swackhamer settled here, one of the children of the home died, and after consultation with the elder brother, Jacob, it was decided that the burial should take place among the trees at the corner of the lot. This child was Julia Ann Swackhamer. At this date, therefore, it may be computed that Churchill Cemetery was founded. It has been a place of burial during the past years, for the dear ones who have passed away in this community. Their memory liveth for evermore
