Inscription. Manufacturing sheet glass required temperatures as high as 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit to create a molten mixture of silica sand, soda ash, lime, cullet, and dolomite. Abundant natural gas fed the plant through this station in Mount Vernon for nearly 80 years.
