Baths of Neptune

Terme di Nettuno, also, Baths of Neptune. . Collegate al Decumano mediante un portico con arcate che monumentalizzava questo lato della strada, le terme furono create alla fine del I secolo d.C. ma ricostruite dall'imperatore Adriano (117-138 d.C) e completate nel 139 d.C. dall'imperatore Antonino Pio. Il percorso interno si snodava attraverso due sale decorate con mosaici figurati e raggiungeva il frigidarium (sala per i bagni freddi) (A), con vasche e pavimento musivo. Da quest'ultimo si passava alle sale riscaldate, due tepidaria (B-C) e un calidarium (D), quest'ultimo con vasche per bagni caldi. Il settore occidentale del complesso era invece occupato dallo spazio aperto della palestra (E). circondata da un colonnato marmoreo, in cui si svolgevano le attività ginniche. Abitazioni con ingressi indipendenti erano situate infine nei piani superiori dell'edificio. Le terme furono restaurate fino al IV secolo d.C. , , Connected to the Decumanus by an arcaded portico that monumentalized this side of the street, the baths date to the late 1st century AD but were rebuilt by the emperor Hadrian (AD 117-138) and completed in AD 139 by the emperor Antoninus Pius. Inside, visitors passed through two rooms decorated with figurative mosaics to reach the frigidarium (room for cold baths) (A), with basins and a mosaic floor. From the latter they then moved into the heated rooms, two tepidaria (B-C) and a calidarium (D) the latter with basins for hot baths. The western sector of the complex was occupied by the open space of the gymnasium (E), surrounded by a marble colonnade, where sporting activities took place. Finally, the upper floors of the building hosted residential apartments with independent entrances. The baths were renovated up to the 4th century AD.
