Cumberland Falls first became a tourist resort in 1875, when a hotel was built next to the falls. The hotel was privately owned until 1931, at which time Cumberland Falls became a Kentucky State Park. The 2-story structure, most remembered as the Moonbow Inn, burned in 1949. Today, historic Dupont Lodge, built of native sandstone and hemlock beams by the Civilian Conservation Corps, overlooks the Cumberland River above the falls. The 51-room lodge offers visitors a perfect getaway. For those preferring a little more seclusion, 25 cottages are also available, the Riverview Restaurant, with breathtaking views of the Cumberland River, features Kentucky cuisine and southern hospitality.
