Inscription. Ohio & Erie Canal Lock #51 Union Mills. Now West Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio - 1900 era.

Aqueduct in the winter.

Goods went by canal boat to Buffalo, N.Y., then on the Erie Canal to Albany N.Y. and finally by river boat down the Hudson Rver to New York City.
