To Italo Gismondi
He was a valuable collaborator of Dante Vaglieri and Guido Calza, later superintendent of the excavations at Ostia, who oversaw the restoration of monuments with unparalleled expertise. He deepened his studies on Roman construction techniques and private buildings. He designed and directed the subsequent expansions of the museum. The superintendency, grateful for such fruitful work, has placed this memorial in memory on the first anniversary of his passing.

Regarding Italo Gismondi. Italo Gismondi oversaw excavations at Ostia for the Italian government for 44 years, He is best known for creating a model of Imperial Rome (Il Plastico), housed at the Museum of Roman Civilization. Commissioned by Benito Mussolini in 1933, it was not completed until 1971. Gismondi died at age 87 in 1974.
