Maximilian Square
In 1804/05, the area was developed as a market space following the demolition of the Gothic parish church of St. Martin, after the cemetery was decommissioned. On the long sides were the former St. Catherine’s Hospital and the former Clerical Seminary (today the New Town Hall), both designed by Balthasar Neumann, 1732–1739. In 1888, the Maximilian Fountain by Ferdinand von Miller was installed. In 1969, an underground parking garage was built, and the fountain was relocated.
