The Seminole Lodge Kitchen
| | Edison and Ford Winter Estates | |
By 1919 a large hot water heater was placed on the lattice porch adjacent to the kitchen to provide hot water for cooking and laundry.
Queenie Adams
From 1926 until her death in 1937, Queenie Adams worked in the Edison kitchen. She lived with her family in the African-American neighborhood of Safety Hill (now Dunbar) in Fort Myers. Adams' cooking was so beloved that she traveled north to New Jersey to work for the Edisons on several occasions. She became ill in December, 1936 prompting Mina to charter a train car back to Fort Myers so she could be reunited with her family near the end of her life. She died a few weeks later on January 11.
