Inscription.

Anciently dedicated to St. Matthew, it was a spedale run by the Knights Hospitalier. The church underwent complete reconstruction in 1173, whilst the front is early thirteenth-century. It is a brick building in a trapezoidal plan with a single truss-roofed nave. The facade exhibits the fairly-spread design of ornamental arches in the Lucca-Pisan fashion arranged in two tiers having a motif of stylized leaves along the listel of the arched lintel. The ornamental arches rest on semicolumns and dosserets ending in a gable. Below is the architrave of the portal with a Jerusalem cross carved in.
