In questo luogo, sull'antica chiesa di Santo Stefano in Canova, sorse nel 1353 il Convento di San Domenico. Fu consacrato il 2 ottobre del 1396 e I domenicani vi rimasero fino alla soppressione voluta dal granduca pietro leopoldo nel 1787. Fu adibito a ospizio, successivamente a ergastolo femminile e dal 1849 divenne penitenziario maschile, ι stato dismesso il 17 novembre 1991.

On this site, the location of the ancient church of Santo Stefano in Canova, the Convent of San Domenico was built in 1353. It was consecrated on October 2, 1396, and the Dominicans remained there until their suppression by Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo in 1787. It was used as a hospice, later as a women's prison, and beginning in 1849 it became a men's penitentiary. It was closed on November 17, 1991.
