1. Farm Equipment Marker
Most of the equipment displayed here was tractor drawn and was used to clear land and maintain the orange grove.
1. Bush Hog: Invented in 1950, the Bush Hog is a rotary blade mower used to cut down thick weeds and undergrowth.
2. Drag: A drag was used to break up topsoil and prevent water from wicking to the surface.
3. Disk Cultivators: Disks helped remove weeds, aerate the soil, and prepared the ground for planting.
4. Sickle Mower: This reciprocating mower was used to cut grass and other plants and has an adjustable bar that rides along the ground.
5. Chopping Cultivators: These chopping cultivators were used to clear the land for planting and to cut up tough plant materials like saw-palmettos.
6. Chopping Cultivator: This particular cultivator is tapered and is designed to loosen soil and remove weeds from around the base of citrus trees. The tool also chopped surface roots to stimulate new root growth.
7. Syrup Kettle: Iron vats like this were in a sugarcane boiler to reduce sugarcane juice into syrup.
