Regarding Royal George Theatre 1915. The Royal George Theatre was built in 1915 to entertain troops stationed in Niagara-on-the-Lake during WW1. It may have been named after King George V (the monarch of the day) or perhaps his son, George (who became George VI), or perhaps a military unit. It was built "on the cheap", designed to last only a short time. Over the decades, it as been a home for vaudeville, movies and mime presentations. Since 1981, it has born a Georgian faηade and interior decor; and has housed live plays

2. Royal George Theatre
presented by the theatre company, The Shaw Festival.

The theatre plans to close after the 2025 season, for a complete demolition, then construction of a new building. In the face of this plan is local opposition! Anyway, the plan is for the new theatre to still present live plays, in its current Georgian style; but without chronically flooding; and fully accessible; and meeting modern building standards. (The city has prepared draft by-laws to permit this construction; required to exempt it from renovation restrictions within the Queen-Picton Heritage Protection District.)
