Living Legacy of the Sisters of St. Joseph
Discover the enduring legacy of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of St. Augustine, FL (SSJ) at the Father Miguel O'Reilly House Museum. Through interactive exhibits and storytelling, visitors will explore the trials and triumphs of the Sisters' lives in the United States since their arrival from France in 1866.

Guided by faith and a commitment to serving the "Dear Neighbor," the Sisters of Saint Joseph (SSJ) were among the first Catholic orders to educate emancipated enslaved Black people in St. Augustine after the Civil War.

From these humble beginnings, the congregation's mission has expanded to establish and support schools, hospitals, children's homes, nursing homes, and residences for developmentally disabled adults throughout the state of Florida.
