Regarding The Nir Oz Lion. October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorists and Gazan supporters broke through the Israeli-Gaza security fence and attacked Kibbutz Nir Oz. During the terror assault, one out of every four Nir Oz Kibbutznicks, including women, children, men, old and young, were indiscriminately murdered, raped, and or kidnapped back into Gaza. The Kibbutz was physically plundered and ravaged.

1. ‘Massive failure’: First troops reached Kibbutz Nir Oz 40 minutes after last terrorists left.
On the morning of October 7, 2023, over 500 Palestinian terrorists swarmed into the unsuspecting Gaza border community of Kibbutz Nir Oz. The army — plunged into complete disarray by the shock attack on dozens of towns and military posts simultaneously — entirely failed to come to the rescue,

as the terrorists moved from home to home, brutalizing, massacring, and kidnapping dozens of civilians.

2. The Murders of Ariel and Kfir Bibas: Were You Paying Attention?. The Bibas family, the mother and the two children strangled by Hamas hands, were members of Kibbutz Nir Oz.
In an official statement on February 21, 2025, IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said, “Ariel and Kfir Bibas were murdered in cold blood by terrorists. The terrorists did not shoot the two young boys — they killed them with their bare hands. Afterward, they committed horrific acts to cover up these atrocities.”

If you were shocked by this brutality against Jewish children, then I am sorry to say that you have just not been paying attention.

3. “Earth Conceal not the blood shed on thee!”.
Nir Oz wanted the Lion. We hurried the sculpture along, siting it in August.  We believed, naively wanting to believe, the fighting would be over before another October 7 anniversary came upon

us.  A proper dedication would be arranged. A memorial stone and a terraced area with the names of each Nir Oz Kibbutz soul would be etched for eternity.

The hoped-for dream is still illusory.  The dedication of the Nir Oz Lion must wait.  No ceremony can be held as long as at least nine Kibbutzniks remain brutalized hostages in Gaza.  Perhaps soon they will return.  We will have a proper dedication of the Lion of Nir Oz then.
