Around 1900, Sedanstraße became the main commercial street in the Schöneberg district. Businesses and shops flourished there. Almost every building housed a shop or a small business.

For example, at number 8 (now Leberstraße 16) there was a cigar factory, and right next door (Leberstraße 18) a wholesale brewery. At number 11 (Leberstraße 22) there was a bakery. And at numbers 19/20 (Leberstraße 36/38) there was

The concentration of pubs and shops was very high, partly due to the large number of military personnel who lived or served on Schöneberg Island.
