1. BUTTAHATCHEE CEMETERY Marker
Inscription. The Buttahatchee Cemetery has been placed on the Alabama Historic Cemetery Register by the Alabama Historical Commission. The Alabama Territorial Legislature Act of December 16, 1819, designated the Buttahatchee community as the temporary seat of Justice for Marion County. The house of Henry Grier served as the temporary seat. The first known internment here was Mary E. Bottoms, 2 year old daughter of Thomas and Ursula Bottoms, who died on December 1, 1848.
