1. Baptist Women in Oklahoma Marker

Inscription. Organized Baptist women's work in Oklahoma began in July 1876 at Nunny-Cha-ha (High Hill) Baptist Church, then located nine miles S.E. of here. Mrs. C.R. Blackall from Chicago spoke to women of the Choctaw-Chickasaw Baptist Assn. meeting under a brush arbor with Mrs. T.J. Bond interpreter. This meeting resulted in organization of the Choctaw-Chickasaw Baptist Women's Missionary Society with Mrs. Sallie Holston, a full-blood Choctaw Indian as first president. The Society has functioned since first formed and this marker erected 1976 commemorates the first centennial of that event.
