1. The Fenwick Fair Marker

Inscription. The Fenwick Fair was held at several locations in the area before arriving here in 1895. Special trains brought passengers from Hamilton and Buffalo for the two-day event that attracted upward of 7000 people. The 16-acre grounds included a half mile regulation racing track featuring a grandstand with a seating capacity of 1500, a two-story hall for displays and crafts, and a hotel that seated 150. Usually favoured with sunny warm days, heavy rains in the 1930s resulted in cancelled events, falling attendance, loss of revenue and eventual bankruptcy. By 1940 the grounds were abandoned, leaving only memories and photographs of the once famous Fenwick Fair.
