This White Oak stands as a living witness to the Battle of Cook's Mills - October 19, 1814. It stands guard over many of the area's earliest families who lie buried in Lyon's Creek Cemetery. Like this White Oak, these family names remain forever entwined in the rich history of this community. Early on the morning of the battle, a British force of 750 men under the command of Lt. Colonel Christopher Myers awoke from their encampment near this site and began their march down Lyon's Creek Road to engage the Americans. This plaque is erected in honor of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Cook's Mills.
