This cornerstone from the Cox College building formerly located on this block of property was donated to the city of college park and incorporated in this monument as a memorial to Cox College and to the Civic Center established here

For almost a century Southern Female (or Cox) College, the second oldest college for women, stood for scholarship, culture, Christian character and service.

Its biblical motto was: "That our daughters may be as cornerstones polished after the likeness of a palace.

In 1940 the property was sold to the city of College Park and the Fulton County Board of Education for civic and educational purposes.
