Regarding The Russian House. It opened as a "Visitors Information Center" and gas station on Route 66 in about 1926. Late in the 1930's, it was the home of Ralph and Alice Salisbury. Alice Richards Salisbury is a renowned author and the Mojave Desert "Poet Laureate".
Because of the shape of the roof, it has the nicknames Russian House and Ski Lodge Roof House.
The house is a private residence, and might soon become a museum.
