Petersburg in Dinwiddie County, Virginia — The American South (Mid-Atlantic)
Field Quarter Outbuildings
| | Tudor Hall Plantation | |
Plantation labor was supplied by staves and draft animals. Mules, horses, and oxen helped clear the land, pull plows, and haul wagons. However, mules were particularly prized on Southern farms due to their strength, endurance, and alertness. Mules also required less food and upkeep, and their work lives tended to be longer than that of horses.
