General Horatio King House
Built in 1841 for Alfred Edwards, a Manhattan silk merchant, and his wife Sophia Lewis, this Greek revival-style townhouse was the home of Horatio Collins King from 1887 until his death in 1918. King was a lawyer, editor, politician, author and soldier who received a Congressional Medal of Honor for action in the Battle of Five Forks during the final days of the American Civil War. He served as an organist at nearby Plymouth Church and was a friend to William Steinway, Harriet Beecher Stowe and Henry Ward Beecher.
He and his wife, Esther Howard, are buried in Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn.
