Inscription.
An arboretum is a property that highlights the benefits of trees and shrubs. The property of the Calvin B. Taylor House Museum includes many beautiful specimens, some almost 200 years old. To qualify as an arboretum, a property must meet certain criteria including educating the public about the importance of trees. Tress, particularly large trees, serve essential purposes, such as contributing to air quality, providing wildlife habitat, offering shade, and adding beauty to the landscape.

On the property of the Calvin B. Taylor House Museum, over 25 trees and woody plants species thrive. Notable trees include large sycamores, magnolias and maples.

The Dr. Mary Humphreys Arboretum celebrates the life of a local, lifelong Berlin resident who distinguished herself in the 1930s, earning a master's and doctoral degrees from Duke University and working as a botany professor at Mary Baldwin College from 1943 to 1968. Dr. Humphreys was a founding member of the Berlin Heritage Foundation, and her knowledge and appreciation of trees and wildlife will continue to inspire both residents and visitors.
