Near Snow Hill in Worcester County, Maryland — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
In Honor of Kathy Pierce Fisher
Lifetime Resident of Worcester County
Kathy's first visit to Furnace Town was a 4th grade field trip. As a History major in college and as a high school history teacher in Snow Hill and a member of the Worcester Historical Society, her passion for history brought Furnace Town to life when she became the Executive Director of the Furnace Town Foundation from 1986 to 2008.
Through her guidance with a dedicated board and staff, the foundation:
1. Increased the number and effective use of interpretive, vernacular buildings
2. In cooperation with The Nature Conservancy, built a new visitors center
3. Gained recognition of the Furnace in the HAER Report and it's designation as a National Historical Mechanical Engineering Landmark
