Hired Hands House
The main house's original kitchen built in the 1850's adjacent to the NE corner of the house was moved north of the present kitchen in 1917 for use as separate living quarters and later to this present location for use as an office. This replica of the original kitchen represents a hired hand's house with household demonstrations. Although a hired hand often lived in with the employer having a separate or shared bedroom and eating meals with the family, hired hands with families had separate houses nearby. Hired help was essential to the labor-intensive farm operation, especially if children were not available to help with the farming, milking, cooking, and chores.
