Removal, Restoration, Reuse. Kathio Landmark Trail: The Forest through Time. , The open strip of land you have just entered was once an electrical power line corridor to the park's original campground. Several years ago, a portion of the campground was abandoned and a new campground was built in order to protect important resources and to provide better camping services. Ogechie Campground is now a rustic campground with water pumped by a solar collector. The power line running from highway 169 was abandoned and this section was adapted as part of the Kathio Landmark Trail., The Old Campground, Dedication. , Former Kathio Assistant Park Manager Dave Capps came up with the idea to use the abandoned power line corridor as the "Forest through Time" segment of the Kathio Landmark Trail. Dave was involved in the initial planning of the trail, but tragically, he died from a rare disease and never got to see the project as it is today. Dave Capps was a graduate of Central Lakes College and an active member of the college's Natural Resource Club. The Natural Resource Club of Central Lakes College has provided the volunteer labor for this trail segment, including clearing and preparing the ground surface, planting, and protecting the seedlings. We have dedicated this trail segment to Dave Capps, as a reminder of his continuing legacy of resource management and public education., Central Lakes College Natural Resource Club, Dave Capps releasing a rehabilitaed [sic] eagle on the Landmark Trail.
