Inscription.
The 100-bed John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital was dedicated on June 30, 1925, and received its first patient transfer from the City Hospital on July 3. John Foster "Jack" Archbold (1877-1930) funded the purchase of the land and construction of the hospital to honor his father, Standard Oil executive John Dustin Archbold (1848-1930).

The designer of the Mediterranean Revival-style hospital was Atlanta architect Eugene C. Wachendorff (1880-1957). Elements of the original building remain visible among later additions.

The hospital's main entrance originally fronted on Gordon Avenue but was moved to its present location after the West Wing was added in 1958. Additional West Wing floors were added in 1975 and 1998, the Outpatient Surgery Center opened in 1989, the East Tower was completed in 2006, and the North Tower opened in 2012.

Serving the region's healthcare needs for more than a century, the private non-profit John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital is the flagship of Archbold Medical Center, a regional network of affiliated hospitals and ancillary services.
