Kenova in Wayne County, West Virginia — The American South (Appalachia)
Welcome to Virginia Point Park
On January 1, 1964 two parcels of land (14.2 acres) located at the confluence of the Ohio and Big Sandy Rivers were leased by the United States of America to the City of Kenova for public park and recreational purposes. Kenova named the property "Virginia Point Park."
On February 27, 1973 both parcels were conveyed to the City of Kenova as part of the Federal Land-to-Parks Program. The ownership of the property will revert back to the United States should it ever be needed for national defense.
Land and Water Conservation Funds have been utilized to improve the facilities. In December of 1999 the Army Corps of Engineers completed a feasibility study which includes plans for a multi-million dollar expansion and improvement project at Virginia Point Park. The Kenova Parks & Recreation Board oversees the management of the property.
