It is sometimes called Cheyenne's first hospital, where many Union Pacific workers were treated. Later, during the Great Depression, it became a haven for people in need under the stewardship of the Welch Family, who operated a soup kitchen out of the home's back door., The home was also the scene of a murder. On November 22, 1995, filmmaker Allen Ross disappeared and was never seen again. Five years later, the Cheyenne Police found his body buried underneath the floor of the basement of this home. Police suspected Ross's wife, Linda Green, of killing her husband, but she was never charged.
