ELIJAH SMITH
Born on August 12, 1755, near Trenton, Hunterdon County. New Jersey. Died March 11, 1836 at age 80 in Illinois. Enlisted the first time in 1776 in Hunterdon County. New Jersey and numerous times again up to 1781 (1778 Washington County. Virginia and 1780 in North Carolina). Reached rank of Sergeant. First marriage to Elizabeth Laughlin Litton on May 15, 1780 in Whitley County. Kentucky. Second marriage to Lucretia Jones on June 7, 1832 in Kentucky.
Local Sons of the American Revolution Chapt. named in his honor March 7, 1987.
JOSEPH JACKSON
Born in 1758, in what is today Guilford County, North Carolina. Died in Morgan County, Illinois on September 24, 1842 at the age of 84. Gave patriotic service in North Carolina. Married Sarah Kirkman from North Carolina.
JOHN DAWSON
Born July 18, 1750 in Stafford County, Virginia. Died December 7, 1839 in Illinois at age 89. Enlisted in 1775 in Stafford County, Virginia and served as a Private in the Virginia Militia. John served under four different Captains (George Williams, George Burrows, John Mountjoy and John James) as well as Col. Joseph Phillips thru 1781. He married Susan Taylor.
Erected by Sons of the American Revolution's National Society, Illinois Society, and Elijah Smith Chapter SAR; American Legion Post 279, and AMVETS Post 100.
