This installation was carved from the trunks of two beloved sugar maple trees after removal became necessary for park safety. The trunks were left to preserve the living root structure of the declining maples, as the neighboring trees were critically dependent on their network. This project illustrates what can be possible when we act with awareness to the interconnectedness of all life.
A collaborative effort between Honesdale Borough, The Wayne County Arts Alliance, Known Grove Sacred Land Stewardship, and the Wayne County Community Foundation laid the groundwork for this project. Through a placemaking process spearheaded by Lisa Glover, over 500 Honesdale community members then worked together-sharing designs, voting on finalists, and painting the carvings-to turn the idea into reality.
Erected 2025 by Honesdale Borough, Wayne County Arts Alliance, and Concerned Citizens and Organizations.
