Solomons in Calvert County, Maryland — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
R.V. Truitt Laboratory
129 Williams Street
Built in 2015, replacing the original 1973 building. The building was dedicated in honor of Dr. Reginald Van Trump Truitt (1890-1991), founder and first Director of CBL. As a zoologist at the University of Maryland, College Park, Dr. Truitt first came to Solomons in 1925, studying oysters in a small waterman's shack.
This is the main building for conducting experiments on aquatic systems. The building provides the capability to control light, temperature and salinity in tanks to help our scientists understand the natural world. The building also houses research laboratories for ecology and ecotoxicology.
Erected by University of Maryland Chesapeake Biological Laboratory.
