Inscription.
The Calvert Marine Museum was founded and operated by volunteers in 1970. In 1991, CMM hired a full-time paid volunteer coordinator and created the volunteer council to support recruiting, training, retaining, and nurturing volunteers.

Today the 500+ strong volunteer council provides tens of thousands of volunteer hours to support daily operations and special events from Waterside concerts, Patuxent River Appreciation Day, Solomons Maritime Festival, to Wm. B. Tennison and Dee of St. Mary's cruises. Our volunteers work beside staff to maintain the museum's historic vessel fleet, construct exhibits, preserve paleontological exhibits, maintain estuarine biology exhibits, beautify the museum grounds and work in the museum store. We are extremely proud of our volunteers and the leadership of our Volunteer Council Presidents.
