1. Lewis Park Marker
Inscription.
This 5.2-acre neighborhood park is named in honor of Ralph and Goldy Lewis. The Lewis family lived in the area and built the housing tract surrounding the park. They are the founders of the Lewis Homes group of companies, which is well known for developing quality residential and commercial projects. Ralph and Goldy Lewis are also known for being community minded. They recognize the importance of helping to make the communities in which they do business better places to live, as exemplified by their contributions toward this park. The land for Lewis Park was purchased with park bond funds approved by Claremont voters in 1963. The park was dedicated in 1965 and development completed in 1966. In 1996, the City purchased the adjacent Danbury School for use as a community center. The purchase also included the developed soccer field, which added two additional acres to the park. Lewis Park continues to be a popular site for a variety of outdoor family gatherings including children's birthday parties. During the summer months, a city-sponsored Youth Day Camp is held at the park.

This park monument sign was made possible due to a generous donation from the Lewis family.
