1. Jaeger Park Marker
Inscription. After a citywide survey, the name Jaeger Park was selected for this park to honor Chester G. Jaeger in recognition of his 47 years of service to the citizens of Claremont. This 4.5-acre park was dedicated in 1978. Mr. Jaeger moved to Claremont in 1931 to become a Professor and Chair of the Mathematics Department at Pomona College, where he was very active in student life and athletics. Jaeger was a pioneer in the teaching of computer use in colleges. In addition, he taught computer use at Convair, which later became General Dynamics, in Pomona. He and his wife, Elfrieda, directed faculty shows and were active in the Claremont Community Players at Padua Hills Theatre. Chester Jaeger was elected to the Claremont City Council in 1950 and served as Mayor from 1954 until leaving the Council in 1958. The land for the park was purchased with state funds received from the sale of voter-approved park bonds.
