Inscription. This land was purchased with funds from the 1963 park bond act approved by Claremont voters. The land cost $36,035. It continued the policy of locating parks adjacent to public schools. The park was completed and dedicated in 1976. Fred Hawkins who was director of parks and recreation at that time said that this park was completed, designed and installed by “in house” talent. The designer of the playground was Brad Buller, later Planning Director for Claremont and Rancho Cucamonga. City maintenance crews did all of the landscaping which Fred said gave them real training for large projects, pride in their contribution to the community and a break in the monotony of mowing and trimming. Neighbors were heavily involved in the design and planning of the park.
