Built in the early 1900's this building has been home to a variety of businesses. Samual Rosenblum had immigrated from Russia/Poland in the late 1800's and settled in Gladstone. He opened The Boot Shop in the building on the corner. He later established a new store called the Toggery and a Beauty Shop at 807 Delta Ave. Mr. Rosenblum moved to California in 1927 and the building was then occupied [by] Andrew Wils, from Rapid River who opened a Dry Good Store in this location.
In 1909 William Needham opened the Gem Theatre at the 904 location and offered movies and variety shows. It cost 10 cents to see a movie except on Saturday you could view the matinee for a nickel. The last performance was the "Pickets," a Minstrel Show in 1917. Mr. Needham was an electrician by trade and moved his electrical business to Escanaba.
Charles Badgerow opened The Union Billiard Hall, and it operated under different owners, until 1928.
