Welcome to Golden Arch
The arch was constructed in early 1949 with a dedication ceremony in March 1949 along with the opening of the Golden Theater, earlier known as the Gem Theatre. The Governor of Colorado, along with 6000 people showed up for the ceremony and parade. After renovations in 1975, 1979, and 1997 it looks much link it did originally except for a change in words to Lives from Remains, and removal of its original neon lighting that traced its letters. The arch was the dream and creation of M.L. (Lu) Holland, President of the Golden Chamber of Commerce and owner of the Holland House hotel and restaurant during that time.
