1. Edith Florence Kromer / Jewel Smoot Hood Marker
Born July 21, 1900 10 a half-dug-out near Carl, Okla. Territory. Daughter of William Henry & Nora Bell Skaggs, pioneer settlers of this area. She attended the Carl School. Married James Franklin Kromer Apr. 23, 1916 and spent 61 yrs. of marriage in the Vinson community. Children were, Irene, J.W, Willene, Kenneth & Gaye. She worked closely with her husband in their farming and ranching operations. She was active in the Church of Christ and Farm Women's Club for many years. Her beautiful hand work and favorite recipes are found in all of her children's and grand-children's homes. Her pioneer spirit has left us an example and a heritage of faith and love. She died Feb. 3, 1982 and is buried in the Independence Cemetery.

Jewel Smoot Hood
Born at Mansville, Okla. Territory in 1895 to Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Morris Smoot. In 1901 her father came to Greer Co. and bought 160 acres of land 8 miles west of Willow for a wagon and a team of mules. After he had built a two room house, his wife Margaret, daughters Jewel, Jesse, Cula and brother Stonner came to Granite to join him. On Dec. 22, 1915 Jewel married Richard Charlie Hood at Brinkman. In 1921 they moved 3 ½ miles west of Willow where Jewel still resides. They had 5 children, Beatrice, Richard, Ray, Harold and Joan. Jewel has been an active member of the Willow Church of Christ since its beginning. She is an inspiration to all.
