Edgar Lee Vaughan
Born in West Texas in 1875. Came with his family at age 15 to Greer County. Filed on land ten miles S.E. of Mangum. Later traded interest for land four, and one-half miles N.E. of Blair where he and Ida Wicker whom he married in 1896 raised seven children to maturity. All the children, Edgar, Bertha, Elva, Willie, Henry, Aileen and Milton. Took their place as leaders in their communities. He was a staunch church, school, Masonic and community leader. Served on board when Midway was consolidated for a number of years blazing the trail for school improvement throughout the area. Died in 1970.

Edgar Lee Vaughan
Educator - Philosopher - Farmer - Rancher - Financier. Born in 1897 as the eldest of the pioneer family of W.R. Vaughan. Graduated from Midway a school for which his father crusaded. Served his country in World War I. Married Ruby Casteel. A state leader in education. Education career as superintendent spent inside boundary of Old Greer County, in present Greer County at Plainview, Ladessa, Midway and City View. In Harmon County at Lacasa was the first to use motorized transportation for school children. In Greer County, left an education building to the Blair Baptist Church as a memorial to his wife who preceded him in death by two months. Passed away in 1963.
