1. Native Plant Garden Marker

Inscription. Providing native plants and trees is one of the most important things you can do to support our local ecosystems. Native plants provide shelter and food for pollinators like bees and butterflies, birds, and other wildlife year round. This garden was created through a partnership between the Village of Tinley Park Environmental Enhancement Commission and Sag Moraine Native Plant Community.

What is a native plant?
Native plants are species that have been growing in our local ecosystems since before European settlement. They are adapted to our specific local habitats, which means they need less water and maintainance than non-native plants once established.

What steps can I take?
Whether you have 10 acres of a 10 foot balcony, you can help better our local ecosystems with native plants!

Remove invasive species like Callery pear, burning bush, and buckthorn. Plant native grasses, flowers, shrubs and trees. Leave leaf litter in your garden beds as natural muích. Practice natural lawn care without the use of herbicides, pesticides, or fertilizers.
