John Andrew Jackson
Born in San Augustine, Texas in 1871. He opened the first hospital in Old Greer County at S.E. corner of Court House Square in 1900. He was awarded a gold medal by the people of Snyder, Oklahoma for service above and beyond duty in operating ambidextrously for many hours saving many lives following a tornado that destroyed that town on May 10, 1905. A new hospital was occupied on this site in 1929. This same year the first aeroplane ambulance went into service which he named "Wings of Mercy". Mayor of Mangum over 30 years. Built city light plant, waterworks, gas system and many other public improvements. In 1938 he made a race for governor of Okla. Died Jan. 26, 1950 in Okla. City, at rest in Mangum Riverside Cemetery.

John Andrew Jackson
Born in Tennessee, Dec 6, 1861. He was one of the county's most distinguished pioneers as a stockman and merchant. 1886, he and his wife Mary Elizabeth came to Indian Territory. They had eight children Arthur, Bonnie, Margarete, Jake, Minter, Bertha, Tena and Faye. His z+ cattle brand was well known in the country. The Jackson Ranch had the only Reed Organ and settlers met there for church services. Established Mangum S. Gen. Merchandise Store (Jackson-Wilson) on the south side of square in 1897. All of his life he enjoyed helping others. He was active in civic and religous groups serving as a deacon of the First Baptist Church from 1901 until his death January 9, 1957.
