Inscription. As the weeks drag on, your muscles aching from the long days of travel, you begin to question if you will ever see the walls of Fort Mose. But when all hope seems lost, you find an ally in the wilderness: a member of the Yamasee tribe. Your stories are not too different, as he also lived in the Carolinas and was forced to travel south to escape the British. Perhaps you can help each other along the journey.

Despite early conflicts, the Yamasee found sanctuary within Spanish Florida when the British drove them from their lands in the Carolinas. When Britain later took over Florida in the 1760s, many Yamasee were scattered. Some stayed, others left for the Caribbean and still others joined the Seminole tribe. Yamasee communities still exist today.
