On June 19, 1928 the Lehigh Portland Cement Company donated the area known as Hamer Mill Land to the state of Indiana for its natural beauty and scenic characteristics, to be used for the preservation and use as a state park
This donated area would become a part of Spring Mill State Park established September 1927
