Inscription. Prominent lawyer who defended laissez-faire capitalism on behalf of clients, such as DuPont, Pennsylvania Railroad, Andrew Carnegie, and J.P. Morgan. Argued almost 200 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, many involving antitrust legislation. An art enthusiast whose nearly 1,300 paintings helped form the basis of the art collection at the Phila. Museum of Art. Among the last general practitioners. His office was here on Walnut Street.
