1. Sluices and Railway Bridge Marker
Inscription.  
1492 In Halfweg worden twee houten spuisluizen aangelegd door het Hoogheemraadschap van Rijnland, voor de afwatering van het Spieringmeer.

1509 Door een stormvloed spoelt het land weg tussen het Spieringmeer en het Haarlemmermeer.

ca 1560 De twee houten sluizen worden vervangen door drie stenen sluizen: de West, Midden en Oostsluis.

1632 Aanleg van de trekvaart tussen Haarlem en Amsterdam. Reizigers moesten de voet de sluizen passeren door houten schotten afgeschermd van het opspattende water van het IJ en het Haarlemmermeer.

1839 Aanleg eerste spoorlijn van Nederland tussen Haarlem en Amsterdam met een brug over de Oostsluis

1852 Inpoldering van het Haarlemmermeer.

1868 Aanleg nog bestaande imzeren spoorbrug over de Oostsluis.

1875 Inpoldering van het Houtrak.

1977 Vervanging van de sluizen door sen electrisch pompgemaal. Verwijdering van de sluisdeuren uit de sluizen.

1509 A storm surge washes away the land between Lake Spiering and Lake Haarlemmermeer.

c. 1560 The two wooden sluices are replaced by three stone sluices: the West, Midden, and Oostsluis.

1632 Construction of the tow canal between Haarlem and Amsterdam. Travelers had to pass through the locks on foot, through wooden bulkheads shielded from the spray of the IJ and the Haarlemmermeer.

1839 Construction of the first railway line in the Netherlands between Haarlem and Amsterdam, with a bridge over the Oostsluis.

1852 Reclamation of the Haarlemmermeer.

1868 Construction of the still-existing iron railway bridge over the Oostsluis.

1875 Reclamation of the Houtrak.

1977 Replacement of the locks with an electric pumping station. Removal of the lock gates.
