1. Flandreau Antique Stone Pole Street Lamps Marker
Inscription. These five street lamps were once part of Flandreau's main street. They were first used in 1929 (before the streets were paved) and were replaced in the 1960s. There were about 5 or 6 of these lamps on each city block. Prior to that, street lighting was provided by coal oil burners that hung from wires. It was the policeman's job to light those coal lamps each night. The stone pole lamps were a big improvement over the coal lamps. These 5 poles were placed at this site in 2018.
