1. Eagle Rock Hill Climb Marker

Inscription. At the dawn of the 20th century speed and endurance tests challenged the mechanical capabilities of early automobiles in motoring competitions known as hill climbs. This spot marks the starting line for the Eagle Rock Hill Climb on November 5, 1901. It was one of the first in the country and the first ever in New Jersey and ran here each November through 1904. The course ran up the steep grade of Eagle Rock Avenue and concluded at the finish line inside the Eagle Rock Reservation.
