Inscription. In 1857 this was the site of a foundry built by Alanson Harris. Here he invented and manufactured plows, hay rakes, and other labour-saving implements used by early farmers which contributed greatly to this community's successful agricultural sector. In 1859 at the first Lincoln Agricultural Society Fair in Beamsville, he exhibited an advanced corn sheller that won him and his foundry wide acclaim throughout Upper Canada.

Unfortunately, by 1872, the lack of an adequate water supply for the foundry led Harris to relocate to Brantford, where he partnered with another award winning inventor, Daniel Massey. Together, they established the Massey Harris Co. that went on to become the famous Massey Ferguson Co, a manufacturer and supplier of agricultural equipment world-wide.
